Anglophone Literatures, Cultures and Media Master

Master of Arts (M.A.)

Über das Programm

Anglophone Literatures, Cultures and Media is a program focused on literature, culture, and media studies, taught entirely in English. The Master's program examines the media dimensions of literature and literary studies, as well as the interaction of English-language literature with other cultural media across three focus areas: 'Literature and Media Culture', 'Literature and Cultural History', and 'Transcultural Anglophone Studies'. The program studies literary text production in cultural contexts and historical, political, philosophical, and artistic developments in the Anglophone world, considering the transcultural dimensions of English-language literatures and cultures in history and present. Following the tradition of Frankfurt's English studies, special attention is given to literary studies in historical context, cultural communication, cultural memory, intermediality, media studies key concepts, and central themes in Anglophone literatures and cultures. The program is based on the concept of research-based learning and teaching, enabling students to independently work on different problem areas and critically reflect on cultural contexts. Students receive theoretically grounded education oriented toward current research, allowing participation in research-oriented projects and formulation of their own research contributions. The program focuses on Anglophone culture, literature, media and history (except for the USA), while providing ample opportunities to work and research independently. In addition, students may participate in an 'Academic Training', which provides insight into academic structures through attending workshops and conferences, and promotes specialised working and writing skills in the academic field. The Master's program prepares students for doctoral studies and academic careers, while also qualifying them for demanding professional activities in fields such as publishing, media, and public relations.
