Advanced Intensive German (AIG)

Über das Programm

Course description This summer school offers participants with prior knowledge of the German language at level B1 (CEFR) the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the language and to experience more than 1,000 years of German culture and civilisation in and around the city of Osnabrück, the City of Peace. By the end of the programme, students will have mastered advanced language skills in German equivalent to level B1/B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In addition, you will have the chance to design and conduct remedial and tutorial sessions for an international group of German language learners at CEFR level A1.1. This will provide participants with a chance to practice their teaching skills and to explore techniques and strategies for developing effective teaching materials. The programme is a cooperation between the Language Centre and the International Office at Osnabrück University. We offer A project-based course, i.e., there is no course book or curriculum based on grammar topics, but students will choose a topic and form of presentation (e.g., video, podcast, website, Instagram stories, etc.) at the start of the course Projects should be selected based on UOS research foci such as "peace and conviviality", "sustainability", "migration" and "artificial intelligence". Resources and technical equipment from UOS’s DigiLab can be used to complete projects; DigiLab staff will introduce all resources available to students. Besides assisting students with their projects, lecturers will introduce students to relevant research skills and language competences in German to prepare and present their projects in the daily lessons. A rich cultural and recreational programme, including a four-day trip to Berlin Students will qualify for up to nine ECTS credit points at proficiency level B1/B2 CEFR upon successful completion of the language course.
